UCR updates and registration
The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) program requires the following entities to register:
All carriers that operate commercial vehicles in interstate or international commerce, including private, exempt, or for hire carriers
Companies that arrange shipments: Brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies that arrange for goods to be shipped, unless they also operate as motor carriers
Companies with a federal MC number: Any company with a federal MC number
Who Must Register
You must register if you are a person who offers for transportation or transports in commerce a shipment containing any of the following categories of hazardous materials (including hazardous wastes)
A company needs an MC number, also known as an FMCSA operating authority, if it:
Transports passengers or federally regulated commodities across state lines
Operates as a for-hire carrier, transporting goods or passengers for compensation
Needs multiple operating authorities to support its business operations
Arranges for the transport of passengers or federally regulated commodities in interstate commerce
Cross border transportation need to meet additional requirements. We have experience in this matter.
If you are conducting business in commerce, you will be required to obtain a USDOT. Many states have required to obtained a USDOT regardless if states have been cross and even required to meet FMCSA regulation standards as they have adopted many of FMCSR.
